A Fresh Take on Farmhouse

Wine Country is a popular Northern California wedding destination for couples both in the Bay Area and from around the world. In Napa and Sonoma, there is an abundance of beautiful outdoor settings, many of them featuring barns or farmhouses. While it’s easy to default to the ever-popular “rustic” look—complete with wooden chairs and vintage place settings—we wanted to put a spin on new ways to make the outdoors feel modern and fresh. The final product was nothing short of renewed rustic.

The invitations were a simple black & white suite with beautiful calligraphy. Definitely an understated, yet elegant look.

Floral arrangements were made from sustainably grown flowers—picked directly from the property! The silver-footed vases added an elevated look to the mix of natural and loose florals.

To accomplish a renewed take on rustic, we used clean table designs with loose floral arrangements and modern furniture. To really uplift the look, we juxtaposed the natural, rustic setting with modern decor elements. We elevated the traditional farm table by selecting one with modern rod iron legs, and paired it with mixed seating made up of rod iron upholstered stools, a wooden bench and metallic bistro chairs for the head seats.

The place setting design centered around clean and simple lines. The use of rectangular china and modern-style glassware really elevated the table’s overall look. A clean color palette of soft whites with mixed metallic added a chic touch, without taking away from the natural setting. And yet, soft gold accents in the rose gold flatware and gold calligraphy softened the look, furthering the design’s femininity. Finally, to stay true to the farmhouse setting, we incorporated natural accents picked directly from the farm. Figs, berries, apples and flowers were all harvested onsite and used in the décor. This always adds a fun, seasonal touch!

Who doesn’t love a good, chilled glass of wine? At the table, guests were greeted with their choice of red, white or rose, with the perfect accompaniment of fresh & dried fruits and cheeses!

The farm to table look wasn’t lost in the place card arrangement. Seating cards could be found in a string of apples—just like an orchard!

For the lounge vignette, we played with neutral creams and metallic accents. The pillows featured geometric patterns, adding a modern twist. To stay true to the renewed rustic look and feel, both the coffee tables and vases featured wooden accents, tying the pieces back to nature.

The bouquet was a perfect combination of texture and color. Loose floral arrangement and diverse flowers made this bouquet truly one of a kind—and perfectly attuned to a modern, yet rustic look.

We adored this beautiful gown. From the lace, to the low back, to the train, this dress speaks for itself!

And let’s not forget the cake! This white and gold masterpiece was the perfect culmination of elevated rustic. Whether your venue is a winery, backyard, or park, don’t be afraid to mix in contemporary design elements in an outdoor space.20 unspecified copy
