Fall in Love with Autumn Weddings

Autumn is in full swing! From the colors, to the crisp weather, to the smells of baking pumpkin bread, fall is easily my favorite season of the year. I love when my couples want to incorporate fall details into their wedding. Here are a few of my favorite ways to bring out the season’s spirit in your special day.

1. Non-Floral Details
Think outside the flower vase, and try orchard crates filled with fall fruit or nuts. Try to use natural elements like twine or branches instead of ribbon to tie on favor tags or signs. Maple leaves are easy to get and inexpensive, and can be used in so many ways.  Use them throughout your decor to provide a burst of rustic color.
2. The Autumn Color Palette

The changing leaves give us a plentiful palette to work with. Choose 1-2 main colors to focus on, then add in secondary colors for a pop but use these minimally.  My favorite main hues are spiced orange (more literal) or plum (more sophisticated) with browns, taupes and creams for accents.

3. An Outdoor Ceremony

In California we are lucky enough to have weather that allows us to have outdoor weddings well into November, but prepare for a wide range of temperatures as fall can be warm and sunny, but also crisp and chilly. We love venues that feature an outdoor spot for an afternoon ceremony, with a warm and cozy inside space for guests to move to for the evening reception.

4. Fall Food and Drinks

Add some fall flavors into your menu, like maple, pumpkin, or cinnamon.  A great signature cocktail can be apple cider with bourbon, served hot or cold depending on the weather. If you’re getting married at a winery and have a beverage minimum to hit, consider mulling some of the wine to serve alongside dessert.
